MACFest’s weekly celebration in downtown Mesa features unique arts and crafts creations from local artists. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The 59th annual Great Canadian Picnic is on Saturday, Feb. 5 at South Mountain Park. Mesa Sister Cities is a partner in the picnic and Burnaby, Canada is one of Mesa’s five sister cities. The picnic is a fundraiser to support the non-profit organization Canadians in Arizona Benefitting Education and Exchange (CIABEE).</p>
<p>Proceeds from the picnic go to CIABEE to fund “Camp Courage” a camp in Prescott for young survivors of serious burn injuries from Canada. The children are brought down to Arizona for a week-long visit of fun and recovery. Proceeds also fund Sister Cities student exchanges between Canada and Arizona.</p>
<p>“Have a great time for a great cause at the Great Canadian Picnic,” Mesa Sister Cities President Ana Cadillo said. “It is so much fun to meet our Canadian neighbors and learn about their culture.” </p>
<p>The Picnic is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features food, games and live music. Mesa Sister Cities will be running the Snow Boot Relay, Bean Bag Toss, Snow Golf, Lacrosse and Mesa Sister Cities booths. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Returning this holiday season, the Sixth Annual Mesa Arts Festival is bigger and better than ever. Avoid the lines at crowded shopping centers and do your holiday shopping outdoors on the beautiful Mesa Arts Center campus. The free event has expanded beyond Mesa Arts Center’s campus to Center Street in downtown Mesa to include a new kids’ zone. The Mesa Arts Festival will feature original works of art for sale by over 70 juried artists; three stages featuring continuous live entertainment; artist demonstrations in glassblowing, blacksmithing, ceramics and more; children’s hands-on art activities; a variety of culinary treats; and beautiful gingerbread houses on display. Come to Mesa Arts Center Dec. 11 and 12 to kick off the holiday season at this spectacular event. </p>
<p>The event is held at the Mesa Arts Center, One East Main Street, in downtown Mesa. On Saturday, December 11 and Sunday December 12 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.</p>
<p>Various of food vendors will provide food for sale in addition to three stages of continuous entertainment, art studio demonstrations, kids’ zone with hands on children’s activities, original works of art from more than 70 juried artists, beautiful gingerbread houses on display</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Arizona Museum of Natural History is again teaming up with Power Paws to kick off National Dog Week at the 9th Annual Service Dog Awareness Day.  Power Paws dogs and their trainers will be at the museum Saturday, September 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide demonstrations of their amazing abilities.  The trainers for these special canines will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about the Power Paws program.</p>
<p>Power Paws trains Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers in 90 commands to assist adults and children with disabilities.  Their main focus is on mobility impairments, such as paraplegics and quadriplegics, but they also provide dogs to the hearing impaired and psycho/social disabilities, such as fears, phobias and Post Traumatic Distress Disorder and are beginning train to dogs to assist those with diabetes.  The assistance dogs learn a multitude of commands including how to open and close doors and drawers, turn lights on and off, push elevator buttons and retrieve dropped items.  </p>
