Gabriel’s Angels Walk-A-Thon and Doggie Beach Party
Get out your beachwear and make plans to bask in the sun at the 8th-Annual Gabriel’s Angels Walk-A-Thon and Doggie Beach Party on March 1 at Cosmo Dog Park in Gilbert, sponsored by Adolfson & Peterson Construction.

Gabriel’s Angels is a nonprofit organization with a mission to deliver healing pet therapy to abused, neglected and at-risk children, nurturing their ability to love and trust, and freeing them from the cycle of violence.

The Walk-A-Thon is for the dogs, but in a good way! Come indulge in a day of fun, food and festivities with your pooch. Grand marshals – three of Gabriel’s Angels therapy dogs – will lead a two-mile fun walk, with Beach Party festivities commencing afterwards. Dress up your canine friend in their best beachwear or bathing suit to try to take home the title of Best Doggie Beachwear. Other activities include an agility contest for both dogs and kids, entertainment by Radio Disney – including the Radio Disney Street Team, comedic entertainment by local comedian Nancy Yeamans, an all-new vendor area, snacks and much more.

“The walkathon is a fun day for our families,” says Pam Gaber, president and founder of Gabriel’s Angels. “We hope people will learn a bit more about Gabriel’s Angels and the progress we’ve made in the community with abused and neglected children. These children find unconditional love and acceptance from our pets, something most of them have never experienced.”

Event registration begins at 8:30 a.m., the walk commences at 9:30 a.m. and the beach party runs 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register before Feb. 28 for early-bird fees of $25/adult or $55/family (which includes two adults and up to four children; each additional child is $5). After Feb. 28, registration will cost $30/adult or $65/family. Registration for children ages 4-16 is $5; children 3 years and younger are free. Event registration includes the Walk-A-Thon and entry into the Doggie Beach Party. Walkers are encouraged to participate in the pledge contest and possibly win great prizes, including a weekend getaway for those who raise a minimum of $2,000.

2008 Annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner

Step back in time and enjoy the music and elegance of Frank Sinatra at the 2008 Annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner on Feb. 28 at the Villa Siena in Gilbert.

This event will make all attendees feel like celebrities, from the valet parking and red carpet adorning the path into the event to the photographer who will be taking candid shots throughout the evening.

Please play the part, and dress like a celebrity, too! Ladies, those beautiful evening gowns will be perfect for this event and, while tuxedos are not required for gentlemen, Frank always performed in a suit and tie, so please come dressed appropriately!

Dinner selections will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and attendees will be waited on by local celebrities for the evening. Sign on as a table sponsor, and you will have the opportunity to select your waiter.

Then, attendees will enjoy a spectacular performance by “The Don” – a Valley performer known for his imitation of Frank Sinatra. His charisma and elegance will fill the room.

For reservations or more information, call 480-892-0056 or visit www.gilbertaz.com. Last year, the Celebrity Waiter Dinner was sold out, so don’t delay! The Villa Siena is located at 890 W. Elliot Road, in the Trend Home corporate offices on the corner of Elliot and Cooper.

With its powerful cadre of more than 60 voices, the Chorale’s program includes the breathtakingly beautiful “Les Chanson des Roses,” composed by Morten Lauridsen, as well as selections from text of the “Song of Solomon” by McCray, Nance and Pinkham. The concerts also feature love song favorites from popular artists, including “Michelle,” “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “Yesterday” by the Beatles; “Lullabye” by Billy Joel; and “Seasons of Love” from the Broadway musical, “Rent.”

The Feb. 23 concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 15 E. First Ave. in Mesa. On Feb. 24, the Chorale will perform at 3 p.m. at Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E. MacDonald Dr. in Scottsdale.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for students/seniors; they may be purchased by calling the Chorale office at 480-820-2764. Tickets will also be available 30 minutes prior to the concert at the door.
