Treasures from the Past Antiques: Have you ever been told you can’t relive the past? Well, at Treasures from the Past Antiques, you can.

“It’s almost like stepping back in time, because you come in and recognize things from your past,” said Debby Ritterskamp, advertising administrative manager for the store.

Since 1994, Treasures from the Past Antiques has acted as a sort of exclusive mall for antiques, with more than 100 vendors inside the building. The store rents space to the vendors, providing them with a place to sell their merchandise.

With a setup like that, it’s easy to imagine the kind of selection they provide.

“Some vendors have garden pieces; another has French country pieces; another has western pieces,” Ritterskamp said. “Most of the dealers are pretty eclectic. There’s a lot of variety.”

From furniture to jewelry to toys to coins, there is something there for everybody, whether you are an avid collector or a casual shopper. With so many options, the shopping experience might sound like it would be overwhelming, yet it is anything but.

“What I hear most often from our frequent shoppers is that [shopping here] is the way they like to unwind and relax,” Ritterskamp said. “Some piece will bring up a good memory. People say, ‘Oh, I remember when my mom had that.’ It’s very soothing.”

The aisles are wide and easy to maneuver around in. The store is well lit and clean. It always has decorated vignettes. And when it comes to where to go to find what, the dealers know where to direct you and how to help you.

“I really think this is probably the nicest, prettiest store I’ve been in,” Ritterskamp said. “It’s a really good environment.” When it comes down to it, there’s just something special about the antique items.

“Each piece has its own personality, and you know they last longer than anything you’re going to buy now in the stores,” Ritterskamp said.

With the tourist season starting up and the holidays upon us, there are some good deals to be had, as well. Next up will be the after-Thanksgiving sale, running Nov. 23-25. Certain pieces could be up to 50 percent off; some may be even a bit more. You never know when you’ll find a real treasure at Treasures from the Past Antiques.

“Who knows?” Ritterskamp said. “You might know something the dealer doesn’t.”

Treasures from the Past Antiques is located at 106 E. McKellips Road in Mesa. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information, call 480-655-0090
