Advanced Skin and Laser: Varicose veins. Those two words instantly cue the “Jaws” theme in the heads of women everywhere. What starts as a harmless little imperfection can take on a life of its own, like a crack spreading across a windshield.

Luckily, there are more options for women now than ever before. Noninvasive procedures are making it much easier to fix a problem that affects women’s health (they can lead to blood clots and leg ulcers) as well as their vanity.

Dr. Kenneth Osorio, MD, founder of the Advanced Skin and Laser Center, provides treatment in both cosmetic and medical genres. Five years ago, he opened the Advanced Vein Center, his medical practice. Initially he performed procedures like using lasers to close veins that normally would require surgery. While there, patients would ask questions about other things they wanted to change about themselves.

“I gradually started acquiring other lasers and technologies that helped me to address more of the cosmetic concerns folks have,” Dr. Osorio said.

So, about a year after opening Advanced Vein, he added Advanced Skin and Laser. Two laser technicians, an Aesthetist and a nurse practitioner are on staff.

“Now we kind of run the whole gamut as far as skin care goes,” Dr. Osorio said. “Our goal has been to acquire the best technology that will provide good results while still being minimally invasive.”

When he adds that 90 percent of what he and his staff does can be performed over a patient’s lunch hour, with that person returning to work with no one the wiser (even a nonsurgical facelift), it seems he has achieved his goal.

With the vein practice, Dr. Osorio has contracted with most insurance companies, so the majority of people are covered for those services. And when it comes to the cosmetic part of the practice, he recognizes that he’s in Mesa, not Los Angeles, so he attempts to make treatments accessible to all.

“We offer an 18-month zero interest payment plan,” Dr. Osorio said, “This can make treatments very reasonable for people.”

He also offers package discounts for both new and existing patients. And the initial consults are free, so there’s nothing to lose.

The group’s best feature? Integrity.

“We want to do what’s right for each person, even if it means sending them to somebody else,” Dr. Osorio said. “We treat [patients] as if they’re our family, and do what’s best for them. That’s what will differentiate us in the long term.”

Bethlehem Lutheran Church: Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mesa has a lot more to offer than just its Sunday worship services. The group has made an effort to provide other activities for people of all ages to keep their faith alive.

For more than 20 years, Bethlehem Lutheran has been providing quality Christian education and support geared toward a highly intergenerational crowd. And they intend to keep it that way. Every Sunday between morning worship services is “Faith Formation,” where attendees split into groups for adults, teens and youth (6th grade and younger) and discuss their faith in a more detailed fashion. They also offer Bible studies, as well as the Christ Care Group, which concentrates on community building, Biblical equipping, prayer and worship, and missional services. A group for teens focuses on a many of the same issues as the Christ Care Group to help keep teens Christ-centered and involved in their community.

A big part of Bethlehem Lutheran is Noah’s Ark Pre-School and Kindergarten. Currently enrolling more than 130 students, Noah’s Ark provides children with the opportunity to understand their faith while learning their ABCs. They are exposed to a loving environment where they can develop spiritually, intellectually and socially with music, Bible stories, basic math, field trips and more. Most importantly, children ages 2-5 can attend, so they will get a valuable Christian education during the most absorbing time in their lives. And there are no worries for working parents during summer and school breaks; childcare is available, too.

Now through March 12, Bethlehem Lutheran will be holding special Lenten services on Wednesdays at 4:30 and 6:30 PM, with a light meal offered in between. Services will be held in the late afternoon, and also in the evening with food. The Sunday worship service times remain the same, at 7:50 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., with Faith Formation at 9:15 a.m.

Bethlehem Lutheran is located at 2745 N. 32nd St. in Mesa, on the southeast corner of McDowell and 32nd St. For more information, call 480-892-0462 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., or visit www.bethlehemmesa.org.

Green Systems : Envision your dream yard. Maybe you see a perfectly cultivated garden, everything symmetrical and in its proper place. Or maybe you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere – vines lazily climbing a trellis, roses popping out wherever they please.

Of course, dream yards require work. But thanks to Green Systems Landscape, that work can be done by somebody else.

Gary Krauser, owner of Green Systems Landscape, loves his job. What started six years ago as a Saturday job with his brother to earn some extra money quickly took on a life of its own.

“We both had full-time jobs,” Krauser said of he and his brother. “I ended up quitting mine as an auditor for a collection agency and just doing this full time.”

Now he owns and runs the full service landscape company with his wife, specializing in both commercial maintenance and residential installs. He clearly does not regret it.

“I really enjoy being outside and I enjoy working with plants and just seeing the change that adding new landscape can make to a house,” Krauser said.

We all have an idea of what we would like our yard to look like; sometimes we need a little help bringing that hazy vision into focus and making it a reality. Green Systems is great for people who know what they want, but just are not sure how to get there.

“We’ll go in and we’ll either redo a current landscape or we’ll just add some new plants to a new building,” Krauser said. “We have a designer that does work for us, so people come to us wanting stuff designed and we take care of it.

“They know what they want,” Krauser sums up. “We do the legwork.”

Between their services and their prices, Green Systems Landscape completely caters to you – the average family. Krauser is the one you primarily will deal with. He makes the plans with you, and carries them back to his employees. He has two crews, and clients are always appreciative that they can communicate easily with other employees when Krauser isn’t there.

“We’re just really easy to work with,” Krauser said.

Most of the company’s business is generated from referrals, probably because their reputation has been built on the fact that they are easy to deal with, they show up when they say they will, and they get the plans done when you want them done.

“I can’t think of any unhappy people that we have had,” Krauser said.

With spring specials and discounts on residential installs coming up, now is a great time to call and make your dream yard a reality. Leave the blood, sweat and tears to the professionals.

Call Gary Krauser at 480-330-4745 for more information.
