Lamassu Mediterranean Grill

Located on the northeast
corner of Elliot and Val Vista, Lamassu Mediterranean Grill is a welcome
addition to the neighborhood. The restaurants menu claims its
food to be authentic, healthy and delicious, and after eating at the
new grill several times, I can say that, in my opinion, they deliver
what they promised.

On several occasions
we have ordered take-out from Lamassu and often chose the Chicken Shawerma
wrap for a quick, healthy and tasty meal. Also available are the Mighty
Gyro Wrap, the Beef Shawerma Wrap and the Pharos Falafel (the
original veggie burger). All of Lamassus wraps come with a choice
of a small Greek salad, hummus or fries.
During this
visit, we decided to try Lamassus platters. The platters contain
many of the same choices as the wraps, but instead of being wrapped
in a pita, the meat is served on a bed of basmati rice with hummus and
salad. Megan ordered the Chicken Shawerma platter and I ordered the
Kings Kafta Kabob. Chicken Shawerma was described as, tender slices
of chicken breast marinated in our special sauce, served with onions,
sumac and tahini sauce. The Kings Kafta Kabab was described as
a mixture of mouth-watering ground beef, minced with onions and
seasonings, cooked to perfection. Other platters offered included
a Beef Shish Kabab (lamb meat available on request) and Poseidons
Garlic Shrimp, described as sautéed tomatoes, peppers,
onions, lots of garlic and spices and, I would assume, shrimp.
Dinner platters range in price from $11.75 to $13.50. Lunch platters
run $2 less per platter. Wraps cost between $8 and $9 and starters range
from $2.25 to $6. A variety of Mediterranean salads are available for
$5-$6.
With our
orders placed, we had time to take in the atmosphere. Dark stone floors,
muted colors with a splash of dark yellow and raw metal give the restaurant
a relaxed feel. Outdoor seating is also available. Customers interested
in outdoor seating should be warned that they may share their air with
Lamassus other offering: Hookahs. Hookahs are Mediterranean water
pipes used to smoke a sticky, tarry tobacco, often infused with flavors
and fruit extracts. To order a hookah you must be 18 years or older
with an ID.
I would recommend trying Lamassu Grill, located at 53 N. Val Vista Road,
Suite #100 in Gilbert. Lamassu is open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.
to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sundays
from noon to 7 p.m. You can learn more about the restaurants food
and hookahs by visiting the website www.lamassugrill.com.
