Joe’s Farm Grill

By Denise Cummings

Nestled in the quaint community of Agritopia in north Gilbert is a wonderful restaurant as rich with history as it is with delicious food. Joe’s Farm Grill – a sister restaurant to the famous Joe’s Real BBQ in downtown Gilbert – has as its claim to fame “common food done uncommonly well and served quickly.” Here you will find such a varied menu we dare not label this establishment a fast-food restaurant, although one of the best things about this place is the retro burger joint feel.
Camera crews were in the kitchen shooting for the Food Netword show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”.

Built in 1966 as the family home to Jim and Virginia Johnston, the building was remodeled to house the restaurant, keeping most of the original structure as well as the mature trees on the property. The restaurant is impeccably clean and offers indoor and outdoor seating. The condiment bar is one-of-a-kind, stocked with many choices.

The extensive menu offers something for everyone. The aforementioned “common” foods – burgers, salads, pizza, ribs, chicken and fries – are joined by some not-so-common offerings, such as the yummy Grilled Peanut Butter & Banana Split sandwich, Grilled Wild Salmon, Ahi Tuna Sandwich and Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, to name a few. Sure, you can order everyday French fries, but why not try Garlic Fries, Baked Potato Fries or Sweet Potato Fries? And the hand-breaded Onion Rings have been voted the best in the Valley. Keeping with its commitment to providing the freshest and most healthful ingredients, Joe’s Farm Grill uses only trans fat-free oil for all its frying, dressings and marinades.
The Cheeseburgers are delicious, I had mine with Swiss cheese.

There is also an abundance of dessert items available. Thick shakes come in a variety of flavors, and the floats and sundaes are to die for!

Not just famous in the Valley of the Sun, Joe’s Farm Grill gained national attention recently. This gem of a restaurant was chosen to be featured on the Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives,” hosted by Guy Fieri. Two days of shooting took place at the restaurant, featuring interviews with staff and customers. Guy himself visited and mixed it up with customers during lunch. The menu items in the spotlight are Grilled Pizza, Ahi Tuna Burger, BBQ Bacon Blue Burger, Onion Rings, Baked Potato Fries and Sweet Potato Fries. The show will air in late February or early March; keep your eye on the restaurant’s website at www.joesfarmgrill.com for announcement of the exact date.
