Veterans
Day Open House and New Exhibit Opening
Join the Commemorative
Air Force Aircraft Museum on Sunday, Nov. 11 for its Annual Veterans
Day Open House at the Commemorative Air Force Aircraft Museum.
The opening of a Special Veterans Day exhibit at 1 p.m. will be
dedicated to the B-17 Flying Fortress Chow Hound that
was lost in action on August 8, 1944 during World War II over France.
The exhibit will feature photos and posters honoring the crew of
Chow Hound and the 91st Bomb Group.
Henry F. Kortebein, brother of Marion Burkhardt of Scottsdale, was
a flight engineer/top turret gunner aboard Chow Hound.
Burkhardt donated artifacts to the exhibit that were recovered in
July 2004 from the crash site in France. Kortebein and two other
crewmembers remains were recovered during the excavation in
2004. The three airmen, who had been listed as POW/MIA, were interned
in Arlington National Cemetery in August 2006.
Other warbirds on display for the Open House include the B-17 Flying
Fortress Sentimental Journey, B-25 Mitchell Bomber,
North American T-6 Trainers, Stearmans and more. This event will
be an educational exhibit displaying Arizonas history and
honoring our veterans.
Admission price for the Open House is $7 for ages 14-adult; $3 for

Journey or other warbirds. Food and drinks also will be available.
